PRESS RELEASE Chris van der Drift
Formula BMW ADAC Championship Round 05: Norisring, Nuremberg (June 25, 26, 27 2004)
DOUBLE PODIUM FINISH FOR CHRIS VAN DER DRIFT AT NORISRING

Nuremberg – Two stunning performances of the ‘Dutch’ New-Zealander Chris van der Drift in the Formula BMW ADAC Championship Series resulted in a double top three finish this weekend at the Norisring. With the obtained points, Van der Drift now leads the rookie standings with a total 160 points.

As all contenders make use of the same chassis, engine, tyres and fuel, the Formula BMW ADAC Series is a solid championship for young upcoming drivers. Because all races are being held during prestigious Formula 1 or DTM events, a large amount of (media)attention is guaranteed.

In qualifying on Saturday morning the New-Zealand multiple go-kart champion already showed his potential by scoring a 3rd and a 4th position for the two races. Both races went even better for Van der Drift: in the opening laps of both Race 01 (Saturday afternoon) and Race 02 (Sunday morning) Van der Drift was able to overtake some of his closest rivals. The race on Sunday morning even saw Van der Drift leading the pack for 22 laps! Due to their experience, Sebastian Vettel and Atila Abreu however were able to turn things around later on, making Van der Drift finishing in (a still superb) third position.

Van der Drift: “I’m more than happy with my results this weekend and the championship points I gained by finishing two times on the podium. This circuit is really special from a driver’s point of view and suited me well. Now I’ve overtook Buemi in the Rookie standings, it’s my goal to build on from that and try to score a race win soon!”

In five weeks the sixth round of the 2004 Formula BMW ADAC Championship takes place at the Nurburgring. Before that, all teams and drivers will attend a joined testsession at Brno in july.
