Team BRM Media Release
Gold Coast lap record holders to re-unite in Asia!

TWO parts of the combination that smashed the Formula 3 Surfers Paradise Street Circuit Lap Record in October this year will be re united shortly, but in an entirely different country for an entirely different team.

21-year-old New South Welshman John Pettit, who raced his 1996 model Dallara on the Gold Coast with a Speiss Opel power plant leased from team BRM, will join the Australian Championship winning outfit this December for the final round of the 2004 Asian Formula 3 Championship to be held at the Batangas circuit in the Philippines.

In doing do, Pettit will be re-united with the same engine that took him to the incredible record on the Surfers Streets, but this time now bolted to the team’s Asian-based Dallara F301 Chassis.

Both Pettit and the team are hoping that the lap record pace from the Gold Coast can be carried over to the 3.4km Batangas layout.

“I can’t wait to get to the Philippines and be re-united with the lap record breaking engine and a great chassis from team BRM,” enthused Pettit.

“We started this season with an engine so old that really shouldn’t have been racing. Once we had the new engine and the right equipment underneath me (at Indy) we were able to really show exactly what capable of.” He said.

“This is an unbelievable opportunity to work with the most professional F3 team in Australia, and I am going to head overseas aiming to deliver the goods for the team and myself.

“This will also be a great opportunity to set things in motion for next season. Team BRM have been very helpful to us all season, so it’s great to be able to drive for them in Asia. I hope this is the start of something longer-term with the team.” He said.

“We are really looking forward to working with John in the final round of the Asian Formula 3 championship,” commented team BRM owner Bronte Rundle.

“John showed the world what he could do during the races on the Gold Coast, and we are confident that the pace he showed there will carry over to Asia this December.

“It’s going to be great to have an Aussie driver in our car for the final round of the Asian Series, and we hope that this can be the start of a great relationship with John for the Future.” He said.

The final round of the Asian Formula 3 championship will be held on December 4th and 5th after which the team BRM Dallara will be shipped back to Australia for a complete overhaul during the off season, in preparation for an expanded attack on the 2005 Asian series.
