Steven Kane wins at the Circuit of Jarama!

At the second round of the Spanish Formula 3 Championship held this weekend at the Circuit of Jarama, Racing Engineering’s Steven Kane won the first race with ease and a big gap to his followers. The second race saw Steven finishing in second. These excellent results bring Steven into second position in the overall championship only four points behind the leader.

Race 1:
Steven Kane started into the race from pole position and dominated the rest of the field from the beginning. Gaining around one second per lap, Steven already had a comfortable seven seconds gap in lap eight. Steven marked the fastest lap time in the race and celebrated a souvereign start to finish victory.
Borja Garcia stated from fourth position on the grid and after an amazing start moved up into position two. Until lap nine Borja could defend his position. By then it became very apparent that his car was not competitive enough for a top position and others overtook him on the straight. Borja, however, continued fighting, but when Martin crashed into Borja’s car in lap twelve, the young Racing Engineering driver could continue, but only finished the race in thirteenth position.
Maria de Villota started the race from ninth place and delivered an intelligent race. While others ahead of her became victims of their aggressive driving style, Maria stayed calm and attacked at the right moments. This well planned racing was rewarded with the fifth place.

Race 2:
The second race saw Steven Kane starting from second position on the starting grid, where he also finished in the race. After his victory in race one, Steven jumped on the podium again.
Borja Garcia, starting race two from only thirteenth position, again had a very good start, which got him a position eight. In lap five Borja made up another position and overtook Kool in the last lap, finishing sixth.
Maria de Villota on the other hand also overtook several drivers and after starting the race eleventh finished in the points in eighth position.

“This was a strange weekend”, Alfonso de Orleans, Racing Engineering’s president, said, “We are trying to see exactly what is wrong on Borja’s car since it’s not his normal position in the race. On the other hand, Steven did an excellent job winning one race and finishing the other in second. Well done, the boys did a good job.”
